How to Clean and Repurpose Used Candles

Candles are a great way to set a cozy and warm ambiance in your home. But once the wax has melted away, you're left with an empty jar that you might be tempted to throw away. Instead of adding to the landfill, why not give your used candles a second life? In this post, we'll share some tips on how to clean and repurpose your used candles so you can continue to enjoy their beauty and functionality.

Step 1: Remove the Wax

The first step in cleaning out your used candles is to remove the remaining wax. You can do this by placing the candle jar in the freezer for a few hours. Once the wax is frozen, use a knife or spoon to chip away the wax. If the wax is still stuck to the bottom of the jar, you can place the jar in a pot of simmering water to melt the wax away. Be sure to handle the jar carefully to avoid burning yourself.

Step 2: Clean the Jar

Once you've removed the wax, it's time to clean the jar. Start by wiping out any remaining wax with a paper towel or cloth. Next, fill the jar with hot water and a few drops of dish soap. Let it soak for a few minutes before scrubbing the inside of the jar with a sponge or brush. Rinse the jar thoroughly with hot water and let it dry completely.

Step 3: Repurpose the Jar

Now that your candle jar is clean and ready for use, it's time to decide how you want to repurpose it. Here are a few ideas to get you started:

  1. Use it as a vase: Fill the jar with water and a bouquet of fresh flowers to create a beautiful centrepiece for your table.

  2. Organise your desk: Use the jar to store pens, pencils, and other small office supplies.

  3. Create a terrarium: Fill the jar with soil, rocks, and plants to create a mini garden.

  4. Store small items: Use the jar to store small items like jewellery, loose change, or cotton balls.

By following these simple steps, you can easily clean and repurpose your used candles. Not only will you save money by reusing the jars, but you'll also be doing your part for the environment by reducing waste. So the next time you finish burning an Oroma candle, don't throw away the jar – give it a second life!
